Local Government Minister, Parveen Bala confirms that municipal council elections will only be held after a review of the Local Government Act.

While responding to questions raised by opposition parliamentarian Prem Singh on when the municipal council elections will be held, Bala said that the Act has not been reviewed since 1972 and he terms it as the Hurricane Bebe Act.

Opposition MP, Aseri Radrodro asked Bala again on the deadline for the elections to be held for the town and city councils.

Bala said it is not easy to conduct the review of the Local Government Act.

Opposition MP, Niko Nawaikula again asked for the timeframe for the municipal elections. However Bala said he cannot give the dates in parliament.
