There is still no answer to finding a substitute for marijuana farming in the Province of Nadroga and Navosa.

This is one of the main issues that will be discussed at length in today’s Provincial Council Meeting that will be held in Sigatoka.

Assistant Roko Tui Rusiate Raidaveta said one of the major obstacles is trying to change the mind-set of the farmers who have been in this business for some time and it is always hard to change overnight.

He added that 10 years has passed and they have tried several options for the farmers but to no avail, unlike past years the farmers nowadays are planting marijuana in places where it is not accessible by foot.

Raidaveta added that another option that will be discussed is how they can work together with the Agriculture Department to take the dalo toppings and the cassava stalk to the farmers to plant.

The Nadroga/Navosa Provincial Council Meeting starts at 9am today in Sigatoka Village.
