The Education Ministry has issued a directive to all Primary schools that all sports competitions involving various schools should be held on Saturdays, and not within school hours from 8am to 3pm from Monday to Friday.
Education Minister, Filipe Bole said this is mainly to ensure the safety of the primary school students.
He said with the primary school rugby, soccer and netball shifted to Saturday mornings, parents can accompany their children to the sports competitions.
Fijivillage News has received confirmation that all Suva Primary School Rugby competition matches will be put on hold for now and the organisers will meet again to see what can be done, before they carry on with the competition.
All Suva Primary Schools rugby competitions are currently held on Fridays from about midday.
The netball matches are mainly held on Saturday mornings.
With all competitions shifting to Saturdays, it would also mean that the primary school teachers who normally organise and officiate the games would have to make themselves available on Saturdays if they decide to go ahead with the new structure.
