There will be no specific travel sanctions imposed by the New Zealand Government on those who are appointed to the National Council for Building a Better Fiji.

However, Acting New Zealand High Commissioner to Fiji, Joanna Kempkers adds that those appointed to the National Council will undergo the same tests like everyone else when applying for a New Zealand visa.

Kempkers adds that the travel ban covers, inter alia, members of the Fiji Military Forces, as well as high profile coup supporters, their families and their associates, and said that the test for whether people fall into these categories is the same for all individuals, whether or not they are members of the National Council for Building a Better Fiji.

When Village News posed questions to the Australian High Commission on whether or not the travel sanctions will also extend to those appointed to the National Council, officials said that the questions could not be answered at this point in time as a new Australian Government is yet to be sworn in.
