The future of Air Fiji Limited and its 170 employees now lies in the hands of the Tuvalu Government and its major shareholders with confirmation this afternoon that the company will remain closed until late June.
Speaking to Fijivillage news, Tuvalu's Minister for Transport Taukelina Finakaso said their main priority is to pinpoint why the company plunged into a financial crisis. He confirmed that a decision on Air Fiji is expected when shareholders meet on June 13th.
Finakaso confirms that he met with Air Fiji Managment yesterday who have raised serious concerns on the plight of the 170 workers who remain without any pay for almost a month.
However, Finakaso stresses that while they are mindful of the workers of Air Fiji, at this stage they will not rush to pump money in to revive the airline company. He said their Cabinet will discuss the matter next week.
