The Public Service Commission has today confirmed that there are no special policies approved for the appointment of military officers in the public service.

In a statement this afternoon, PSC Chairman Rishi Ram said there is a misunderstanding on the issue as the Commission has not received any such proposal for consideration.

Ram stresses that according to the current laws of the country, there is no restriction on any one to apply for jobs in the public service, and this includes members of the RFMF.

Ram said the bottom line is that when the Commission decides on an appointment it ensures that the best suited and qualified person gets the job and if that person happens to be from the military, so be it.

The PSC stresses that many cross discipline appointments have been made in the past and the practice is likely to continue if it is going to be in the best interest of the public service.
