There is no proof at all at the moment that notorious conman Peter Foster is in the country.

Immigration Director, Major Nemani Vuniwaqa had earlier told Fijivillage that at this stage comments by Foster in the Australian media are just claims.

Peter Foster, who is on the run from a three-year-jail sentence in Australia, has claimed to the Australian media that he came into Fiji over the weekend in disguise on a false passport.

Foster was sentenced for his continuing involvement in the weight loss industry against a court-ordered ban.

He has told Brisbane’s Sunday Mail that he is now seeking protection in Fiji.

Foster said fearing a jail sentence was looming, he had been planning a possible escape from Australia for six months.

He told the Sunday Mail at the weekend that he was now being looked after by friends in Fiji and that he hoped to have an audience this week with Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama to talk about receiving permanent asylum.

Foster has been on Fiji’s watch-list after he fled from the country in 2007.
