There is no official confirmation from the Newcastle Knights on whether Akuila Uate’s contract with the club will be extended this year.
The Fiji-Bati wing signed a four year contract with the Newcastle Knights in 2013 and discussions about a contract extension are still on-going.
When Uate signed the contract in 2013 he was in top form and scored 59 tries in the three previous seasons and represented Australia and NSW.
The Knights are currently paying 500,000 Australian dollars for the 28-year-old and their former director of football Michael Hagan has revealed the club was willing to dump Uate earlier this year to save money.
Uate has been hit with both injury and a low performance through the season but his Manager Darryl Mather has stated previously the Fijian flyer intends to stay at Newcastle until the end of next year.
