Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the government wants to ensure that the new Media Development Decree is a well prepared law and takes into consideration the issues raised by the stakeholders during the consultations.
Sayed-Khaiyum said there is no need to rush into implementing the decree.
He said they are now working on looking at the various submissions made last week.
It has already been stated by the Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama that the Public Emergency Regulation (PER) will be lifted when the Media Decree comes into effect.
The Attorney General said while the PER is coming up for another review at the end of this month, it does not mean that the Media Decree would be rushed to ensure that the PER is lifted.
