The Fiji Taxi Union has advised all taxi operators around the country that the Transport Minister Timoci Natuva has not made any directive to limit the age of taxis up to twelve years.
This is after a report in one of the dailies that the LTA is trying to implement a 12 year running limit on taxis.
Union General Secretary Rishi Ram said although LTA is considering the said proposal the final decision has to come from the Minister's office.
Meanwhile, Ram said the union also submitted their consultants report on applications for new taxi fare increases based on the present operational cost to the Minister, where he has directed LTA to come up with the said recommendation to his office by this Thursday.
LTA Spokesperson Ratu Eroni Volavola said the newspapers had misquoted him which led to the confusion and he is preparing a statement to be released tomorrow.
