Vodafone Fiji 7s young forward, Masivesi Dakuwaqa believes that if there is no guts then there will be no glory.
The 22-year-old from Cakova village in Moala, Lau has been outstanding in training and is giving some of the experienced players a tough time in camp.
Dakuwaqa made his debut at the Las Vegas 7s and he did not disappoint fans.
The former John Wesley College student remembers that many from around the country or those with knowledge of Fijian history were curious about his name.
For Dakuwaqa it's a whole lot.
In Fijian mythology the name Dakuwaqa refers to a Shark God, a revered protector of the nation's reefs and of fishermen.
Far from being the shark god, Masivesi Dakuwaqa has his own story.
At a very young age, while playing with relatives back in his village in Lau, an accident with a rubber band stretched too hard had hit his eye, an incident that led to him having blurred vision in his left eye for the rest of his life.
While some may see playing rugby without a perfect vision an issue, Dakuwaqa shrugs off criticism about his vision when he continuously takes on the field of play.
At 16, he switched codes to rugby league and had even went to the extent of playing in their premier competition before the age of 20.
He made the switch back to rugby union when he joined Nadi Rugby Union for the U20 competition.
His manager then brought up the idea of him taking up 7s again leading up to him joining the Tokatoka Westfield Dragons.
Since then, Dakuwaqa has not wasted the opportunity as he had the chance to learn from one of the best local coaches, Epeli Lagiloa.
The Fiji 7s team to the Rio Olympics will be announced by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama next Friday.
