“There is no excuse whatsoever for men to beat women and women to beat men.”

These were the comments of the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar while speaking to the residents of Wainikoro, Nadogo during the opening of the Nadogo Women’s Resource Centre this morning.

Akbar stressed that the state of domestic violence in Fiji is appalling and the government has a political will to make a difference.

She says women need to be encouraged to stand up more for themselves.

Akbar adds if everyone keeps repeating that violence is unacceptable in any setting, it might make a difference.

Meanwhile, the Nadogo Women’s Resource Centre is the first for the Macuata province and it is built with a funding of $30,000 from the government.

The centre will open up income generating opportunities for more than 10 women groups in the Macuata province.
