The Fiji Electricity Authority has clarified that no final decision has been made on the request by them for an increase in tariffs.

Chairman, Nizam Ud Dean said cabinet has granted them the increase however they are awaiting approval from the Commerce Commission who will make the final decision.

According to Dean, the Commission has two weeks to make a decision and then only they will be able to implement the increase.

There was confusion on the statement released by cabinet on Monday night which announced an increase in FEA tariffs by 15 percent from September 1st this year.

Commerce Commission Chairman Dr. Mahendra Reddy said as far as they are aware they are still working on the submission from FEA and a decision is expected in the next few weeks.

Permanent Secretary for Information Lt. Colonel Neumi Leweni who released the cabinet statements to the media is yet to comment on the matter.
