There is no confirmed date as yet on when Fiji’s new constitution will come into effect.

Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the submission time will end on the 26th of this month and they will then work on any amendments to the draft.

Sayed-Khaiyum said a lot of work also needs to take place to ensure that people understand the new electoral system that will be adopted.

Sayed-Khaiyum is continuing the public consultations on the draft constitution at a public meeting in Labasa today.

The session began last week in Suva with a briefing by the Attorney General.

Today’s public consultation will be at the Labasa Civic Centre, beginning at 9.30 this morning.

The Attorney General will be in Lautoka to brief the public at the Tanoa Waterfront Hotel Conference Room on Wednesday.
