With just a month away from the 2016 Super Rugby competition kick-off, there is no confirmation at this stage on whether Sky Pacific will show all the games live.

Fiji Television Limited says they are in discussions with the agent that has the Super Rugby rights to show the games.

CEO of Fijian Holdings Limited which is the majority shareholder of Fiji TV, Nouzab Fareed says at this stage they do not have the rights to show any Super Rugby games.

The 2016 Super Rugby season kicks off on the 26th of next month.

Meanwhile Digicel Fiji which had announced with Fiji TV that they had purchased Sky Pacific, is yet to get the Pay TV broadcast license from the Communications Minister.

The announcement was made in September last year.

During that announcement, it was highlighted that Digicel will make its portfolio of exclusive Pay TV broadcast rights such as the Super Rugby, Super League, NRL 9s, as well as movies and quality entertainment programming, available to Sky Pacific customers.

Digicel Fiji had announced that it was purchasing Sky Pacific for $5.75M.

They had also paid a deposit of $0.75 million.

Fareed has refused to comment on the issue.

Digicel Fiji CEO Darren McLean had earlier said that they had received documents from the Ministry of Communications with draft versions of the Special Conditions which need to be agreed before proceeding.

McLean says Digicel and the Ministry are working together to clarify the conditions in detail and ensure that the intended transaction is in the best interest of all parties including Government, Digicel, and Sky Pacific customers.

Digicel needs a broadcasting and spectrum license.

Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum said in October that as a foreign based company, Digicel must obtain a license to provide subscription based pay television services in line with the Media Industry Development Decree.

Under the Media Industry Development Amendment Act, no local content including local news can be shown on a Pay TV service run by a foreign owned company or media organization.

Sky Pacific currently has Fiji One and Pacific Channel which has local content.
