The much talked about UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen next month will see no legally binding commitment from the developed countries to reduce greenhouse emissions to assist in the reduction of sea level rises and global temperature rises.
This follows the confirmation by the leaders who attended the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation or APEC Summit in Singapore.
The APEC Summit includes the leaders of the US, China, Australia, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Russia amongst others. US President Barack Obama and Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd were part of the meeting.
Although the leaders of the Pacific island countries including Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama have been raising their concerns and calling for the developed countries to make a serious commitment, it is clear that no legal treaty will be signed in Denmark next month.

Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama stressed to world leaders yesterday, to seriously consider the threat of Climate change and that the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen next month needs to be a success.
Speaking at the World Food Summit in Rome, Bainimarama also urged leaders to recognize the immediate problems that are affecting many countries and try and find workable solutions for a sustainable world of tomorrow.
He told the summit that the rising sea levels affect not just food security of the vulnerable pacific economies, but it puts into doubt the very existence of these regions.
The Prime Minister said Fiji experienced unprecedented floods in January this year and the enormous devastation caused by such disasters, which not only results in commercial and economic hardships but has disastrous effects on food production as well.
