The High Courts will not entertain any cases challenging the decision by the President Ratu Josefa Iloilo to abrogate the 1997 constitution.

As the President is yet to appoint any Judges the High Courts remain closed and a notice from the Acting Chief Registrar Major Ana Rokomokoti at the High court registry states and I quote " Pursuant to section 5 of the Administration of Justice Decree 2009, we have been hereby directed that we are NOT to receive any civil action,(constitutional, Judicial review or miscellaneous) regarding or relating to the Constitutional Amendment Act 1997 Revocation Decree 2009, Decree number 1" end of quote.  

It was earlier confirmed that all High court, civil and criminal cases on the daily court list are being deferred for one month.

Meanwhile, a lawyer from the Director of Public Prosecutions Office raised concerns in the Magistrates court this morning on the difficulties they are facing as there is no DPP at this stage. While appearing in an on-going fraud case, the Lawyer informed Chief Magistrate Ajmal Gulab Khan that there are questions over their status in appearing in court on behalf of the DPP while the position remains vacant.

Permanent Secretary for Justice, Pio Tikoduadua said as far as they are concerned it is a non-issue as the Office of the DPP has been re-instated by decree and the lawyers have to carry on with their work.
