The chairman of the Confederation of Public Sector Unions Rajeshwar Singh is happy with the signing of the agreement with the interim government last night which would see the restoration of 1 percent of the pay cut in December.
Although the Fiji Nurses Association which is one of the affiliates of the Confederation of Public Sector Unions was not present at the signing of the agreement, Rajeshwar Singh said it is a step in the right direction.
Fiji Teachers Union General Secretary Agni Deo Singh said they have always maintained that strike action was the last resort.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Trades Union Congress hopes the agreement signed yesterday will be a start of a new relationship between the unions and the government where they have recognised the state of the economy in the country.
Interim Public Service Minister Poseci Bune is expected to meet with FICTU officials this afternoon.
