No Word On AG’s Escort To Forum
Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama had assigned Sayed-Khiayum and former Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Ratu Isoa Gavidi to represent Fiji, however Ratu Isoa was asked to resign on Friday following certain comments he had made to the media.
Sayed-Khaiyum only confirmed earlier that he is flying out tomorrow to attend the meeting in Port Moresby.
The Pacific Island Leaders Special Forum Meeting will go ahead after PNG Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare's decision to defer the meeting till February 10th, was overturned by Forum Chair and Niue Premier Toke Talagi as most of the Forum leaders had already made their way to PNG.
Commodore Frank Bainimarama had earlier written to Forum Chair Talagi saying he was unable to attend the meeting due to the flood crisis and also asked for a deferment of the meeting as he wanted to attend personally.
It has also been confirmed that Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd will also not attend the meeting while his New Zealand counterpart John Key flies into PNG tomorrow.
