The Fiji volleyball men’s and women’s teams will be unable to participate in this year’s Pacific Games.

Fiji women’s volleyball coach, Varanisese Logavatu says this is because the team failed to pay the full levy of $24,000.

Logavatu says they have only paid $14,000 so far.

She says it is really unfortunate as the team had been preparing for a year.

The men’s volleyball team also did not pay the full levy of $24,000. They had only paid $5,000.

The Fiji women’s team won silver in the last Pacific Games in 2011 while the Fiji men’s Team finished in fifth place.

Chef de Mission Cathy Wong says they understand that the players have been training hard all year and they will be disappointed but this is not the end of the road for them.

Meanwhile, the Beach Volleyball men’s and women’s teams will not be affected from this as they are still going to PNG.

The Pacific Games will be held from the 4th to the 18th of July in Papua New Guinea.
