Nadi Mayor Timoci Koroiqica has stressed that he will not rush to reinstate the three terminated councillors despite Interim Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum overturning the council's decision.
He maintains that the council has followed the provisions under the Local Government Act to take action against Sanjit Patel and two other councillors.
Sanjit Patel claims the council has so far wasted over $10,000 of ratepayer’s funds in taking legal opinions to take disciplinary action against them.
However, Koroiqica rubbished claims by Patel, saying that the figure is wrong.
Koroiqica said these three councillors were terminated after they failed to attend three separate consecutive council meetings.
Officials of the Local Government Ministry and the Nadi Town Council are trying to clarify whether a correct decision was made.
