Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry said there is no reason for the Pacific Island Leaders Forum to give Fiji an ultimatum to come up with a date for General Elections by 1st May.
Chaudhry said Fiji's electoral system needs an immediate change and elections can follow this process.
The former Finance Minister added that Pacific Island leaders need to understand that elections will be held in Fiji, however some time is needed to rectify some overdue problems.
The Pacific Island Leaders Forum came to a decision last month to give Fiji an ultimatum to set an election date by 1st May and to have elections by December this year.
