The Republic Of Fiji Military Forces said there is nothing wrong with the Commanding Officer of the 3FIR Unit, Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara being appointed as the Chairman of the Lau Provincial Council.
Military spokesperson, Major Neumi Leweni said the military also does not have any problems with Mara's appointment as it does not stop him from taking up the post under the Military Act.
Major Leweni also stresses that the military does not operate under the regulations of the Public Service Commission.
Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara is the new Chairman of the Lau Provincial Council while the Deputy Chairman is Ratu Josefa Basulu.
Meanwhile the PSC Chairman is unaware on whether civil servants and military officers can take up the Chairman's post in the provincial council.
According to Rishi Ram this has happened for the first time and legal opinion needs to be sought.
The Lau Provincial Council continues at the Nasova police barracks.
