The Fiji Netball team will not be defending their Gold Medal at the Pacific Games in New Caledonia next year as the host country has decided not to include netball in the Pacific Games program.
Although Netball is one of the biggest sports in the Pacific, FASANOC President Vidya Lakhan said netball is one of the optional sports in the Pacific Games.
Based on this, Lakhan said New Caledonia has decided not to include the sport in the program because they do not play netball a lot in the French territory.
Meanwhile, Netball Fiji Interim President, Wainikiti Bogidrau said the decision was expected.
However, she said it will not hinder their development as Fiji will be taking part in the Pacific Series that will be held in Papua New Guinea.
Bogidrau added that both Gabrieli Qoro and Unaisi Rokoura have set their plans and are preparing for the Pacific Series and the World Netball Championships in July next year.
