Suva lawyer Richard Naidu has stressed that there is no need for a People's Charter in Fiji and that leaders should just follow the constitution.
While speaking for the negative team at the Fiji Media Council Forum Public Debate on the theme "The People's Charter, is it good for Fiji", Naidu said it is a necessity to follow the constitution as it was endorsed by the people of Fiji through their elected representatives.
Member of the National Council for Building a Better Fiji Josefa Serulagilagi had stressed that the people of Fiji have the opportunity to be part of something historic by joining in the People's Charter process.
Speaking for the affirmative team at the Public Forum Debate at JJ's last night, Serulagilagi said no other government has undertaken such a task to gather people's views on finding solutions to the long standing problems in the country.
However, Richard Naidu said people should not support the Charter process as it will not achieve anything and stands in the way of democracy in Fiji.
