Although the residents of Muanivatu squatter settlement have been given till the end of next month to vacate the land by the Suva City Council, it had been revealed that no one had made any attempts to move.

Ecumenical Centre For Research Education and Advocacy's (ECREA) Semiti Qalowasa said no one had made any attempts to move because there is not anywhere else for these people to go to.

Qalowasa said most of the people living in the settlement are low income earners and therefore find it hard to move.

He added the government is still in talks about finding a suitable piece of land to resettle the residents.

A meeting between ECREA and the Director for Local Government failed to take place yesterday as not all the officials were present.

The meeting was to establish if a piece of land had been found.
