There is still no clear indication coming out of Fiji Rugby Union on when they will name the 7s coach and manager for the Digicel Fiji 7s to the IRB 7s and to defend the Melrose Cup in March.

The short listing of coaches was done by national 15s coach Ilivasi Tabua, HPU manager Peter Murphy and CEO Ratu Timoci Tavanavanua and it is expected they will hand in the names to the FRU Games Committee for interviewing sometime this week.

The likes of Tailevu coach Inoke Male, his younger brother and New Zealand based Waisiki Masirewa, Australian based Acura Niuqila, former 7s coach Peni Veidreyaki, Iliesa Tanivula, former Guam coach Penisoni Uluiviti, Josateki Savou and Waisale Serevi all have applied for the position.

On technical grounds Waisale Serevi will be ruled out as he does not have a level 2 IRB certificate.

But, Fijivillage has been informed that the 7s wizard is in the running together with former 7s coach Josateki Savou and Penisoni Uluiviti who hold a level 3 IRB certificate.

Tanivula, Male, and Veidreyaki are out of the race while the two overseas based applicants Niuqila cannot be committed on a fulltime basis while Masirewa have not coached a national side which is a requirement in the selection criteria.
