Fiji does not have equipment to detect hard drugs like Cocaine coming into the country.
Fiji Islands Revenue and Customs Authority Chief Executive, Jitoko Tikolevu has confirmed that everything is done manually at the Airport and major port of entries around Fiji.
Tikolevu said plans are underway to bring detecting machines from overseas.
The FIRCA Chief Executive said they have skilled staff around the major ports of entry and they depend very much on the Intelligence report received from Australia and New Zealand.
His comments follows the sentencing of a 46yr old Mexican national by the Lautoka High court to eight years earlier this week for bringing Cocaine into the country.
She was arrested from a hotel in Nadi as the drug was not detected upon her arrival at the Nadi International Airport where Judge Justice Daniel Gounder called on relevant authorities to attend to the issue urgently , otherwise Fiji's main port of entries could become a haven for drug traffickers.
