This is the opinion of the Chairman of Fiji Human Rights Commission after revelations by youth activist Pita Waqavonovono that due to the Commission's delay in looking into their case, they had taken their complaint to the international community, mainly the United Nations Commission of Human Rights.
Doctor Shameem confirmed hearing about their complaint being lodged overseas but said no official complaint was lodged with the commission.
However, Waqavonovono one of the five prodemocracy activists taken in for questioning by the Military on December 24th, 2006, said the FHRC should understand why they had to go to the UN with their complaint of alleged human rights abuse.
