The Interim Minister for Finance Mahendra Chaudhry reveals that bus operators and companies should not expect another increase in bus fares.

In a statement, Chaudhry confirms that some bus companies have said they might make an application for another fare increase however they must be reminded they are not paying any duties on the fuel.

Chaudhry said bus companies are already benefitting from the zero duty and concessions on the fuel prices and should not be asking the Government for further increases in bus fares.

He said through internal cost cutting measures these bus operators could also be able to cushion the impact of the recent price increase of fuel. The Interim Finance Minister said it is also important for people to understand that Fiji has a small economy which is subjected to the influence and movements in the global economy.

Meanwhile the increase in bus and taxi fares came into effect following the announcement by Manu Korovulavula the former Interim Transport Minister.
