Niko Verekauta dream of winning his first gold medal in the 100 metres final this afternoon in the Mini Games faces its biggest challenge from Coke Games Best Male Athlete Banuve Tabakaucoro.

Verekauta and Tabakaucoro both clocked a time of 10.80 seconds in their respective heats in semifinal and the showdown in the final at 3.50pm this afternoon will be a test on who is the fastest man in the 2009 Mini Games.

Also in the running for a medal is Cyril Savou who stop the watch at 10.97 seconds during the semifinal.

In the womens division Makelesi Bulikiobo won her heat in the semifinal in a time of 12.02secs.

She is now firm favourite to win the 100m final that will start at 3:40pm.

Bulikiobo also had the fastest time in the semifinals.

Tonga's Sikuvea had the second fastest time of 12.48secs.
 
Other athletes that will take part in the final this afternoon are Maketalina Lokolokobuka and Varasiko Tomeru who are also gunning for a gold medal in the 800 metre finals which will start in the next 15 minutes.
