It was a night of darkness where the only sounds were that of the strong wind which sounded like the roar of jet engines.

That was the description given by forty year old Alface Miller during Hurricane Tomas whose family took to the hills to escape the rising sea water.

Miller who lives in Naivita along the Savusavu coastline said that villages along the coastline were devastated as they were exposed to the sea and overnight sea water rushed into homes.
