The Newtown community in Nasinu will be having a special celebration for their son, Jerry Tuwai when he returns from the Rio Olympic Games next week.
Tuwai’s brother Mataiyasi Cokanasiga says the people in Newtown are already planning to throw a big celebration for the nippy half back.
Cokanasiga says this is not only a life changing moment for his family but for Newtown as a whole as Jerry’s extraordinary story has inspired young ruggers in Newtown.
Tuwai’s father Poasa Vunisa was emotional when they witnessed the final against Great Britain as he remembered Tuwai’s humble beginning and how he always stands by his side as the eldest in the family.
Since Jerry joined the Fiji 7s team in 2013, he has provided electricity, water and other basic needs to their family.
He is even planning to provide something bigger for his family when he returns home.
