Through an Extraordinary Gazette, the President Ratu Josefa Iloilo has approved the promulgation of the Composition of the Great Council of Chiefs.
The Legal notice dated August 24th 2007, states that the GCC shall consist of the following 52 appointed members which includes the Minister for Fijian Affairs, 42 members to represent the chiefs of the 14 provinces, 6 co-opted members and 3 members to represent the chiefs of Rotuma.
The promulgation also states that the Fijian Affairs( GCC) Regulations 1993 and any amendments made thereto providing for the numbers, membership or composition of the Great Council of Chiefs are hereby repealed, and any appointments made thereafter are revoked.
