The Fiji Police Force has seen a new trend whereby the most younger and the elderly people are now either being raped or are victims of sexual offences.

This after a 9 year old class three student of Lami was allegedly raped by her 50 year old grandfather during a period of time this year.

The 50 year old grandfather has been charged with five counts of rape and will appear in the Suva Magistrates court on Monday.

It is alleged that he committed the offence between January and October this year.

The girl reported the matter to one of her relative who then took the matter to police.

An 80 year old woman was also allegedly raped by a 22 year old man in Navua with the man charged and in custody.

Police Assistant Spokesperson Sergeant Atunaisa Sokomuri said it’s very disturbing to see that those very people who need care and protection are being victimized.
