The Inter Agency Working Committee led by the Social Welfare Ministry who is currently developing a National Policy Framework for the Elderly in Fiji has welcomed the new regulations and changes announced by FNPF.
Committee member, Fiji Council of Social Services Executive director Hassan Khan said Social Security is the main issue affecting the elderly in our society at the first National Consultation in Suva.
Khan said it is important that the elderly have income security as most of the elders use their FNPF funds to assist their family members.
It is hoped the Elderly Policy will be in place in the last quarter of this year.
The Elderly Policy will see the social protection of the elderly including health care, transportation, long term institution care, as well as support arrangements for family care givers and support for the disabled.
