The Newly appointed Magistrates will have to seek authorization from the Chief Magistrate Ana Rokomokoti before they are allowed to hand down sentences and rulings for cases which were being handled by the terminated Magistrates.

A number of sentencing and rulings for cases which were being dealt with by the three Magistrates whose contracts were terminated last month is still pending before the courts.

One of the civil cases was called before Suva Magistrate Thushara Ranasinghe who was informed that former Magistrate Mary Muir had prepared the ruling which was to be delivered today.

The Lawyer informed the Magistrate that it is normal procedure for the presiding Magistrate to read out the sentence or ruling prepared by his brother Magistrate.

However, Magistrate Ranasinghe informed the Lawyer that he will have to get authorization from Chief Magistrate Rokomokoti before he will be able to deliver the ruling.
