New look FRU as board looks to clean up rugby house
First to go from last night’s meeting is the senior management from the Flying Fijians team after the review of their Rugby World Cup performance.
In another RWC finding six players will face disciplinary action after they did not follow team protocol and went out drinking.
They will be punished with deduction from their remaining $15,000 dollars in contract.
Also all of the posts at FRU will be advertised with those who are currently been employed, being given the opportunity to re-apply for their job.
The FRU board has also made the decision that the national selectors in both the 15s and 7s rugby code will have to go making way for new selectors to come on board.
FRU new CEO will be known in January and will be working with a new structure that will be put in place before the end of this year.
The FRU will employ major union coaches as their development officer who will look after the development of rugby in their area.
For 7s rugby, the Digicel Fiji 7s coach position will be shortlisted next week.
The application closed this afternoon with two overseas applicants on board plus leading 7s coaches like, Lote Rasiga from Red Rock, Waimanu’s, Sailosi Naiteqe Snr, former captain, Alifereti Dere, Iliesa Tanivula, Watisoni Ratulevu from Rewa and Josateki Savou.
The announcement for the new Fiji 7s coach is expected to be made on the second week of November with the first assignment being the first IRB 7s on the 25th and 26th on the Gold Coast in Australia.
