Five months after devastating Tropical Cyclone Evan, a couple in Votualevu Nadi will now be sleeping peacefully in their newly built home.

This is a government initiative where military engineers and some local carpenters built homes for those people who lost theirs after Cyclone Evan.

Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama handed house keys to some families in Nadi, Lautoka and Tavua today who had lost their houses during Tropical Cyclone Evan and Abdul Ahmed is one such recipient.

31 year old Ahmed said apart from his bed, he had lost everything during the height of Cyclone Evan.


Meanwhile, Nadi District Officer, Peni Koro said the assistance has been provided in two categories for those whose houses were completely or partly destroyed.

He added that the funding came through Ministry for Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster and approximately $12,800 is spent on one house.
