New graduate nurses to be employed
Permanent Secretary Dr Salanieta Saketa said they are now liaising with the Public Service Commission (PSC) to employ these nurses.
On how many retired nurses and doctors will be employed on a contract basis, Dr. Saketa said it will all be done on a case by case basis.
More than 300 staff, including 15 doctors and 97 nurses will retire this Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Education Ministry is putting in place strategies to ensure that the quality of education offered in schools is not compromised as more than 1,000 teachers will retire by the end of this week.
Education Minister Filipe Bole said the ministry is putting out an expression of interest for graduate teachers to apply and the positive outcome of this new retirement policy would be that teachers with degrees would be absorbed into the primary school teaching positions.
The Ministry is yet to formally inform all teachers above the age of 55 years that they will have to vacate office by Thursday.
