New flights to boost Northern economy
From the 11th of next month, people traveling to and from Labasa will benefit from cheap air fares as low as $70 one way.
Labasa Chamber of Commerce, Vice President Satish Kumar has welcomed the step taken by Pacific Sun, adding the airline company should continue providing people with these cheap fares.
However, Pacific Sun General Manager Jim Samson confirmed this cheap fare will only be for two weeks, the new lowest fare in the market will start at $99 after the $70 sale period ends.
Samson added this will be available for some seats only.
Managing Director and CEO of Air Pacific, the parent company of Pacific Sun, Dave Pflieger said the Labasa town council, Labasa Chamber of Commerce and people of Labasa were asking for lower fares, more flights and earlier departures to Suva with later returns to allow more time to conduct business.
He said they made these decisions for the betterment of the people of Vanua Levu.
He said they may place more aircraft in the market if the demand increases.
Meanwhile, government has revealed that major upgrades will take place at Waiqele airport.
Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama revealed this at the launching this morning saying that they now want planes to land at night at the airport.
Defence Minister Ratu Epeli Ganilau announced in Labasa that Airports Fiji Limited is looking for $ 2 million to put lights at the airport by the first quarter of next year.
There will be a total of 25 return flights per week between Suva and Labasa from 11th October.
