The Attorney General stresses that reconciliation in domestic violence cases will no longer be seen as an easy way out by the magistrates.
Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said with the introduction of the Domestic Violence Decree, it is expected to change a number of things.
Sayed-Khaiyum said for too long men who assault their wives reconcile and seek forgiveness in the courts just to escape the court case and prison sentence.
This used to be seen as an easy way out.
Sayed-Khaiyum said the new decree also makes it easier for women or children who are victims of domestic violence, to get immediate assistance.
