There is a need for new consumer laws and protection to have a quicker redress.

That is the message the Minister for trade and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum had for the various consultants and participants at the opening of the Review and drafting of Consumer protection laws and consumer redress system in Fiji workshop this morning.

Sayed-Khaiyum said that consumer redress is limited under the current system whereby the only mechanism is to take legal action against the producers and that it is usually a long drawn out process.

He adds there are various consumer laws and procedures that need to be uniformed, highlighting the need to look into all aspects of consumer protection, providing better access for consumer redress.
