Definite timeframes have today been presented by the Prime Minister where he has announced that Fiji will have a new constitution by 2013 and we will go to the polls by September 2014.
Commodore Frank Bainimarama has revealed the government's roadmap to democracy where he has announced that work on Fiji's new constitution will begin in the year 2012.
While delivering his national address at the Tradewinds Convention Centre, Commodore Bainimarama said this is part of the reforms which will be implemented.
He said this will see major changes to the electoral system by 2013 with the race based system to be eliminated.
Bainimarama said the new constitution must be in place at least a year before the scheduled September 2014 elections which will allow all Fijians and parliamentary candidates ample time to familiarise themselves with the new constitution.
The Prime Minister stresses that the government will focus on the improvement of socio-economic and infrastructure conditions for the next 3 years.
Bainimarama stresses that his government is a government of change.
He also had a message to the workers and civil servants of the country that they will be treated fairly but he also said that they have to become more efficient and productive.
