It's time to recognise our young people!

A volunteer organisation, Vision Fiji which advocates for children in Fiji has introduced the Fiji Children's Award.

Vision Fiji Chair, Lynda Tabuya said this award recognizes and acknowledges exceptional young people in Fiji, and hopes their stories will inspire others.

She said Vision Fiji is seeking young people who are the unsung heroes and are providing extraordinary service to their families or communities that would otherwise go unrecognized.

Tabuya said the Fiji Children's Award will be bestowed upon young people between the ages of 6 and 17 who show exemplary achievements in the categories of improving the lives of others especially the more vulnerable in the society, enhancing the school or community in which they live and showing exemplary progress in personal development especially where this meant overcoming personal circumstances.

Vision Fiji said nominations can come through schools, churches and other organisations that work with young people. Each organisation may make one nomination a year.

A selection panel will evaluate all nominations received and the Award will be given to the young people who meet the panel's high criteria.

Tabuya said nominations must be sent by mail and postmarked no later than 20th July to be considered.

The Award Ceremony will be held on 20th November which is also UN Children's Day.

The Award recipients will receive a medal and a certificate, and their stories will be made public.

The Vision Fiji Committee is also looking at certain proposal where the recipients may also be part of a scholarship and mentoring programme.
