Government has set a deadline of the end of the month for the expressions of interest for the development and operation of Fiji's first ever casino.
Tourism and Trade Minister Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum confirmed this following the recent expressions of interest that appeared in the Economist - a British owned weekly news and international affairs publication.
In the tender, the government invites interest from internationally successful full-casino developers/operators.
Sayed Khaiyum said the deadline is for quicker results.
Sayed Khaiyum said another reason for this is to be able to scrutinize the track record of the developers.
He added that the tenders Board expected to be set up soon to scrutinize tenders will also be looking at the social impact of the casino on the community and devise sets of laws to counter this.
The expression of interest closes on the 30th of this month.
