The Suva to Nausori corridor will be the first ones have ambulance service provided by the National Fire Authority.
NFA Acting Chief Fire Officer, Jone Koroi said that after the approval of the National Ambulance Services Decree by Cabinet, a nation wide paramedic training of firefighters was undertaken .
Koroi added that now the Health Ministry and NFA will start services to the Suva-Nausori Corridor as soon as approval is given by the Ministry any time soon.
He added that they are now working on the amount of money required to ensure all their stations are equipped with ambulances.
The decision to out source the ambulance services was given the Green light after Health Minister, Doctor neil Sharma informed Cabinet that the Ministry faced difficulties managing its ambulance transport pool and the inefficiency provided by St John's Association resulted in below standard service.
A review done by the ministry in 2008 recommended the service be outsourced to NFA.
