New Zealanders Told Not To Travel To Fiji
However, Tourism Fiji Chairman Patrick Wong has revealed that they have been informed about some Travel Agents based in NZ who are deliberately telling customers not to come to Fiji due to their own personal agenda.
Wong stressed that Fiji is still one of the safest tourist destinations around the world.
The New Zealand government is now advising its citizens that there is some risk to their security in Fiji and for them to take caution following the expulsion of the Acting High Commissioner Caroline McDonald.
The revised travel advisory said the expulsion could lead to increased tensions and New Zealanders in Fiji are advised to exercise particular caution and maintain a low profile.
It said Fiji is calm but a rapid deterioration to the situation, including the potential for civil disorder and violence cannot be ruled out.
The New Zealand government also said that there continues to be examples of the deteriorating respect for the rule of law in Fiji.
