Some 2.98 million New Zealanders go to the polls this morning to elect their new government with the final opinion polls showing National holding a 7.5% lead over Labour.
Stuff.com reports that Roy Morgan puts National on 42.5%, Prime Minister Helen Clark's Labour on 34.5%, the Greens on 10% and NZ First on 4.5%, Act on 4%, Maori Party on 2.5% and Unitedfuture on 1%.
On these numbers, the Maori Party would be likely to hold the balance of power.
Polling begins this hour.

Meanwhile, reports said that some 12,000 had enrolled to vote during the three days leading up to the elections, but tens of thousands more had yet to register by yesterday afternoon.
The Electoral Enrolment Center said 158,000 eligible voters had failed to enroll.
