Some 2.98 million New Zealanders go to the polls this morning to elect their new government with the final opinion polls showing National holding a 7.5% lead over Labour.

Stuff.com reports that Roy Morgan puts National on 42.5%, Prime Minister Helen Clark's Labour on 34.5%, the Greens on 10% and NZ First on 4.5%, Act on 4%, Maori Party on 2.5% and Unitedfuture on 1%.

On these numbers, the Maori Party would be likely to hold the balance of power.
