New Twist in Lami Murder Trial
Detective Corporal Koro told the High court that he interviewed Ilaisa Sousou, Manoa Toviriki and Netani Nute on 2nd September in relation to the murder of Muraad Buksh.
Questions was raised by Sousou's counsel Tevita Fa that during the interview an option is given to the person being questioned if he would like to engage a lawyer and if the person wishes to consult a lawyer the interview is suspended. However Fa said it was not done in Sousou's case and he signed the document without seeking a lawyer.
Detective Corporal Koro told the court that it was a mistake on his part when in fact Sousou had said that he does not wish to engage a lawyer but Koro had written yes beside the question.
Koro also told the court that he realized that a few weeks later and made altered the document when the disclosures were prepared.
Sousou's lawyer Tevita Fa asked Koro if he had informed the authorities and whether amendment was made to the photocopied version of the documents served to the counsels to which Koro said no.
Fa also stressed that Koro played around with Sousou's constitutional right and could be prosecuted.
The Case continues in High Court.
